Dense, rounded flower clusters of this showy perennial appear from June to September. Flowers are lavender to pink, in clusters 2-3″ in diameter. Occurring naturally in dry fields, thickets, and woodland borders across much of North America, this outstanding ornamental is native to all of the contiguous 48 states except for California, Oregon, Nevada, and Florida. The aromatic leaves are sometimes used as an ingredient in salads as well as for minty teas. The plant has a history of medicinal use as well.
