Self-fertile. Juicy, sweet, highly nutritious black fruits ripen from early July through September. Fruits are 1-1½” long, and ripen a few days after first ripening. Fruits are more tart if picked early, but still delicious. Bears fruit 2-3 years after planting.

Trader mulberry is from Germany and was introduced to the United States in 1892 by the Trader family. It was planted on their family farm in North Dakota. The tree is thriving still, producing fruit over 100 years later.

Mulberries can be eaten fresh, often dried, and made into pies, juices, or preserves.

‘Trader’  is one of the hardiest fruiting plants, suitable to zone 4 and zone 3 with protection.
