One of the most cold-hardy of all bamboos. Culms are strongly tapered and stiffly upright, branches are almost perpendicular to the cane. It often reveals a fragrant incense scent during warm weather or when vigorously rubbed. Spreads and increases in height quickly. It is said to tolerate wet locations. Among the best species for edible shoot production, congesta produces abundant shoots which are good even when raw.
Please note: Phyllostachys atrovaginata/congesta (incense) is priced higher than other similar bamboo selections, such as Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Spectabilis’ (green-groove) (our most popular ornamental) or dwarf David Bisset, both have excellent cold hardiness. Phyllostachys atrovaginata/congesta (incense) is more labor-intensive for us to dig, and our stock is more limited.
Note:
We can only ship bamboo plants up to 5-7′ tall. Additionally, depending on the stage of growth of the plants, often in late June when new growth hardens off, we can offer taller sizes for local pickup or delivery.
If we receive an order for taller sizes without an e-mail about pickup or delivery, we will ship 5-7′ tall plants and issue a refund for the difference.
Note: For quantity or wholesale pricing, or if you need to schedule a delivery or wish to pick up plants at the farm (whenever possible, it is preferable to pick up plants here at the farm so we can dig huskier rootballs), e-mail us at: Info@tripplebrookfarm.com.
