Sweet-smelling aromatic leaves, The fragrance is most noticed when leaves are crushed. Sweet fern typically grows 2-4′ tall, attractive fern-like dark green long leaves, up to 4″ long.
Ideal for wet conditions, or windy locations, tolerant of drought and a wide range of soils, full sun to part shade.
Best in average, well-drained soils, but prefers sandy acidic soil.
Fixes its own nitrogen.
No significant insect or disease pests.
Works well for erosion control, and forms colonies once established. A lovely addition to a native plants garden, or to fill an area.
