Asarum europaeum known as European wild ginger is a uniquely dark glossy leaved shade-loving perennial.
European ginger is an evergreen species, it slowly spreads to form a 6″ deep, dark green carpet of heart-shaped leaves.
A woodland perennial, it is an attractive glossy-leaved reliable groundcover, but somewhat slow to spread.
Performs best if there is some moisture, but can tolerate dry soils, as long as not too dry. Under ideal conditions, quick to spread and vigorous.

Blooms appear from late spring to early summer
