Phyllostachys
About 30 species of tall to very tall, evergreen, woody-stemmed grasses. Native to temperate east Asia and the Himalayas. This genus contains the largest, and many of the most useful, of the temperate zone bamboos. Phyllostachys species are mostly aggressive spreaders. The shoots are edible, but vary in quality depending on species.
